When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford to appear on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type,” he said, and was going to audition people similar to Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they had to at least take it to Ford first, thinking he would immediately turn it down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford was pitched the project, leading to interest from other notable actors.
Jason Segel is perfectly cast for this script
In the end, Goldstein talked to Ford and sold him the role. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was elated nonetheless. Featured on WatchMojo: Top 10 Best TV Shows of 2023 (So Far) (2023). And the rest of the show is great, too.
And Jessica is perfect
He has the weird, idiotic energy needed for this role. Her humor is perfect for the dialogue. This is the new way of dramatizing situations. There are no real jokes, just engaging personalities with a dash of quirk and family circumstances that are a little off-kilter, but still relatable.
He would lose his license immediately
Of course, Jimmy’s behavior as a therapist is completely absurd. Just impossible. But we allow metaphorical situations in drama. And in this script, we sense a strong determination in the decisions.
Other critics, apparently, had problems
We have to give the writers the benefit and try to capture the essence. For me, it’s easy and fun.
