Michael Schur was inspired to create A Man On the Inside after watching the Chilean documentary Agent Mole
Synopsis
Charles, a retiree, finds new life when he answers an ad for a private investigator and becomes a mole in an undercover investigation at a nursing home.

He says, “Agent Mole is so powerful as a documentary because it makes people feel incredibly similar regardless of age, ethnicity, or gender, and I would describe that feeling in a very limited way as, ‘I have to call my mom.’ We tried to do something similar with our show with the tone: Does our show basically contribute to the feeling of wanting to call my mom?
I’m not a fan of binge-watching, but we killed the entire season on the first night
It has the right mix of warmth, fun, sadness, and depth, with a story that leaves you speechless.
Ted Danson is great, of course, but Stephanie Beatriz (Diaz in 99) is great and her character is someone you want to spend all your time with
It’s set in San Francisco, which of course helps my rating, but mostly, even though it’s very sad at times, it’s a comedy that gives you hope for the future when we’re all a little older.
