Army sends a volunteer company to patrol the unexplored western lands
Synopsis
In the winter of 1862, during the Civil War, the U.S. Minervina had the set built in Montana and then had the cast live there for two months.
Roberto Minervini is known for his dramatized yet documentary approach to American rural life
The dialogue and thoughts expressed are from the actors as they lived in the wilderness imagining they were soldiers in the Civil War. Full of beautiful camerawork and a meditative study between the Civil War era and its characters, “Minervina” offers an interesting new approach to discussing the aimless and terrifying journey of soldiers marveling and observing their surroundings and the battles of war.
Including good direction throughout and some well staged and presented battle sequences
Strong sound design, natural performances and the camera help set the tone, atmosphere and setting. Although some of the dialogue ends up being awkward, sometimes destroying aspects of realism.
I guess I’m being a bit presumptuous, lol
Overall, I find the beautiful and mediated approach to the Civil War interesting. I know a lot of people won’t like it, but I really like this one.
