Synopsis
Elphaba, a young woman misunderstood because of her green skin, and Glinda, a popular girl, become friends at Shiz University in the Land of Oz. After meeting the wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads.. Cynthia Erivo in Wicked and other actors who completely transformed themselves for their roles.. Practical sets were built and integrated with CGI instead of being shot on green or blue screens. Chu wanted the world of Oz to look like a real place rather than just a computer-generated backdrop. This included planting 9 million tulips to serve as part of the landscape of Munchkinland. The film uses the two-letter abbreviation for Nebraska, NE. Two-letter state abbreviations were not introduced until 1963, long after the Wizard left for Oz. The correct abbreviation for the time would probably have been Nebr.. Wizard: [from the trailer] The best way to bring people together is to give them a really good enemy.. The Universal Pictures logo used is the 1937-47 version, in homage to the era in which The Ozarks (1939) was released, which appeared in a zoom-out used by the current logo. The logo is also in green and pink, the colors of the main characters Elphaba and Glinda.

No One Weeps for the Wicked Written by Stephen Schwartz Starring Ariana Grande, Andy Nyman, Courtney Mae-Briggs, Jeff Goldblum, Sharon D. Let me first say: NO ONE PAYS ME FOR MY REVIEW! Secondly, I have seen the musical show THREE times on a professional stage. Unfortunately, not on Broadway, but at The Buell in Denver. Is the movie perfect? NO. That’s why I give it a 9. It’s a little long; but after seeing the show, I’m not sure what they could have cut. The show is almost three hours long WITH an intermission. There are no special effects in the show; you have to use your imagination (which is one of the reasons a show is fun). NOW TO THE MOVIE!
All really good
They did a great job of bringing a very successful play to the big screen. The special effects are really good and add to the count. They didn’t spend too much time on any one aspect of the story. The music. The acting. The singers. No, not all singers are great singers! I loved Michelle Yeoh singing. She’s not a singer, but she did a great job. Same goes for Jeff Goldblum. For the record, this is not Judy Garland’s Wizard of Oz. This story is based on a book by Gregory Maguire.
No Cowardly Lion
It tells the story of how the Wicked Witch and Glinda became the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North. It has no Dorothy. No Tin Man. And NO Scarecrow (stay tuned for part 2… that’s another story). The witch who falls on Dorothy’s house is in part 1, but isn’t explained until part 2. I was a little concerned about the casting of Elphaba and Glinda, but was pleasantly surprised. They were both wonderful. Ariana Grande shows just the right amount of innocence, self-importance, thoughtfulness, and selfishness needed for Glinda. Cynthia Erivo shows Elphaba’s lack of confidence, lack of self-worth, and wallflower personality. Fiyero’s lack of thoughtfulness, recklessness, etc. were perfectly portrayed by Jonathan Bailey.
This movie is awesome!
Again: stay tuned for part 2 to find out more. Go see it, but do NOT expect The Wizard of Oz. This is not THAT story. If you expect that, you will be disappointed. If you expect to be entertained…you will love it. Pay close attention…the fantastic original Broadway cameos by Elphaba and Glinda. It was a nice touch and a tribute to the two who first brought the characters to life!. Look back at the memorable red carpet looks and costumes worn by Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and other members of the magical cast of “Wicked.”
