As the world teeters on the brink of destruction, Dietrich Bonhoeffer joins a deadly plot to assassinate Hitler, risking his faith and fate to save millions of Jews from genocide. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was accused of participating in the July 20 plot to assassinate Hitler, depicted in the film Operación Valquiria (2008), after Hans von Dohnanyi was accused of being the “spiritual leader”; the attempt. There is no evidence that either man was involved in this particular event and he simply pretended to eliminate both. Dietrich Bonhoeffer: We have no defense against stupidity. Neither protest nor force can touch it. Reasoning is pointless. Facts that contradict personal prejudices can simply be disbelieved – indeed, a fool can counter them by criticizing them, and if they are undeniable, they can simply be dismissed as trivial exceptions. I agree with other reviews that have found two major flaws in this movie. AUTHOR. The movie tells us (in the script) that B has written many books about faith. However, the movie itself never shows him writing, publishing, or discussing any of his books. Most of all, we see B writing his thoughts in a journal. THE ASSASSIN. Yes, historically there have been many failed plots to assassinate Hitler, and in fact the movie shows us one. However, there is no evidence in the movie to suggest that B was ever arrested or charged with anything like that. This is a very serious gap in history. I’m sorry, but I think B deserves a better script and a more vivid story. A good example is the movie Valkarie with Tom Cruise (a non-religious story), which depicts the failed assassination attempt on Hitler. Bonhoeffer’s movie could have used a lot more action to break up the boring conversations about faith in the face of evil.
