Synopsis
In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, finds herself in a high-level job for which she is ill-suited, with tectonic implications for her marriage and political future. The producers persuaded the American and British governments to allow them to use real-life sets as filming locations for the series, including the newly opened American embassy (in Nine Elms), which opened in 2018. Britain allowed filming inside the Foreign Secretary’s office, an honor rarely granted to a film or movie production, especially an American one.

Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 acres) in London other than Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming. My God! The first season ended on a cliffhanger of gigantic proportions.
I don’t know if my heart can handle a season 3
Season 2 almost gave me a heart attack in the last few minutes of season 2. At first I thought this was going to be a slow, low-key political drama. Maybe a different kind of “feel good” TV drama like Madame Secretary.
My God, I was wrong
The Diplomat will keep you on the edge of your seat every episode. Watch them like a starving animal. This is political theater at its finest.
She is outstanding!
It’s even more ruthless than in my wildest dreams. And even if it’s only 1/10th of what’s REALLY going on in American politics and the various agencies (CIA, Secret Service, Diplomacy), it’s still a crazy ride. Keri Russell once again delivers a strong female lead that reminded me why I loved her performance in “The Americans” so much.
